Galveston, TXA Mississippi man recently filed a Jones Act lawsuit against his employer after he was allegedly injured while he worked on one of its vessels, the Southeast Texas Record reports.
In the lawsuit, filed December 1 against Ensco Offshore Co., Travis Dion Chambliss of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, claims he was injured while on board the Ensco 82 on May 27. Chambliss claims that he suffered injuries to his head and neck when a pallet that was being lifted fell on him, according to the lawsuit.
"The defendants were negligent and the vessel was unseaworthy," the lawsuit states.
Chambliss claims that in addition to the physical injuries he suffered, he has also experienced mental anguish and lost wages. As a result, he is seeking more than $75,000 in damages, according to the lawsuit.
The case is being presided over by US District Court Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt, according to the news provider.
Under the Jones Act, seamen who are injured on the job as a result of negligence on the part of their employer can seek compensation for both economic and non-economic losses and damages.
