A Los Angeles construction accident lawyer may be needed after a man believed to be a construction worker died when a trench he was working in collapsed, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said that the accident occurred at a Studio City home, according to the news source.

Humphrey explained that the man was located in a trench that was eight feet deep when the soil collapsed and he became buried up to his neck. The man was pronounced dead at the scene after efforts by the fire department's search and rescue team were reportedly unsuccessful.

"We are now in a recovery effort," Humphrey told the news source.

Workplace safety investigators were reportedly called to the scene to determine whether or not proper precautions had been taken prior to the trench collapse.

Studio City is located in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles and had a population of 25,841 as of the 2000 San Fernando Valley Almanac.
