Santa Clara, CAPeople exposed to certain types of toxic Lumber Liquidators' laminate flooring are potentially three times more likely to develop cancer than previously predicted, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The CDC and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry was notified February 13 of an error in its report released February 10, 2016, about the possible health effects from exposure to formaldehyde emitted from select laminate flooring samples.

Health risks for people who have the laminate flooring are being revised to reflect greater exposure to formaldehyde, which could cause eye, nose, and throat irritation for anyone. The estimated risk of cancer associated with exposure to the flooring increased. Reportedly, the original calculations used an incorrect value for estimating the upper limit of cancer risk from exposure to formaldehyde present in Lumber Liquidator’s Chinese-made laminate floors. The agency stated that the value was about three times lower than it should have been.
Consequently, the estimates suggest that the risk of cancer is six to 30 cases per 100,000 people. The CDC previously estimated two to nine cases per 100,000 people.
While the company stopped selling the Chinese-made laminate floors in May, the CDC continues to recommend that people take steps to reduce their exposure.
In California, the flooring company is facing a probe over possible charges claiming its China-sourced laminates have excessive levels of carcinogens.
