Charles Boyer, 22, and Julie G Broughton, 40, both from Kansas City, were killed in the head-on collision that shut down Missouri 291 eastbound for several hours on Saturday night. An investigation is currently underway as to the exact cause of the accident. What is known is that at some point Boyer lost control of his Trans Am, crossed the center line and hit Broughton's PT Cruiser heading in the opposite direction.
Boyer was reportedly thrown from his vehicle and died on the scene. Broughton, who was only freed from the wreckage after firefighters used the jaws of life, was pronounced dead after a few hours in a nearby hospital.
Preliminary reports show no indications that drugs or alcohol were responsible for the case, though an official toxicology report has yet to be released by state or municipal officials.
