Alleged Stolen Vehicle Causes Missouri Truck Accident

. By Charles Benson

A suspected thief driving an allegedly stolen vehicle the wrong way down a highway caused a major Missouri truck accident.

The driver of the truck was fleeing from police when he started driving north on southbound US 71, according to the Kansas City Star. The pursuit ended after the driver caused a multi-car crash that seriously injured six people.

"I heard a loud boom and then saw a lot of smoke," Keith Whitley, who was in the vicinity of the crash, told the news source. "It was a horrific sight."

Kansas City police Sergeant Bill Mahoney said police were tailing the driver who caused the accident because the truck he was driving was reported stolen. The police approached the suspect when he attempted to break into another vehicle, and the suspect fled, leading to the high-speed chase and the subsequent Missouri car accident.

According to Mahoney, all of the victims suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.
