The lawsuit, which was brought against the LaSalle County Nursing Home, charges that a number of the home's female residents had been sexually assaulted by a male resident with a history of sexual offenses, according to the News Tribune. The residents, many of whom are being treated for dementia, are claiming that the nursing home staff failed to protect them from a fellow patient with known proclivities toward sexual assault.
Of the many suits brought against the facility, the most recent involved an 81-year-old woman who has since passed away. The news source hints that as many as 10 women were victimized by the male resident in question.
Lawyers pursuing the case on behalf of the late woman's estate are seeking upwards of $50,000 in damages plus legal fees. In the lawsuit, they claim that the woman had a "statutory right to receive treatment and care which was free from abuse or neglect," according to MyWebTimes.com.
