Rasco thought his officers would be paid overtime for the event, but Rout contended that that was not the case.
"Nobody has ever paid extra for public officials, but we do pay taxes for the fair so the community does get a return," Jerry Kirkscey of the Mid-South Fair told the news source.
This year there will be new arrangements for the fair's security. The event's new operator, Universal Fairs, has brought in a private company along with the Southaven Police Department to provide security.
Desoto County Sheriff's Office has not been asked to work the fair this year.
