Overtime Pay Issue Avoided at This Year's Mid-South Fair

Memphis, TNA dispute between the operators of the Mid-South Fair in Tennessee and the Desoto County Sheriff's Office regarding the overtime pay for police officers who provided security for the event is partially responsible for a change in policy at this year's fair.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">Desoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco and the general manager for last year's Mid-South Fair, Jim Rout, weren't on the same page when it came to overtime compensation for security workers, according to WREG, a CBS affiliate.

Rasco thought his officers would be paid overtime for the event, but Rout contended that that was not the case.

"Nobody has ever paid extra for public officials, but we do pay taxes for the fair so the community does get a return," Jerry Kirkscey of the Mid-South Fair told the news source.

This year there will be new arrangements for the fair's security. The event's new operator, Universal Fairs, has brought in a private company along with the Southaven Police Department to provide security.

Desoto County Sheriff's Office has not been asked to work the fair this year.
