Louisiana Mayor Reviews Handling of Overtime Pay

Monroe, LAMonroe, Louisiana Mayor Jamie Mayo is continuing to review how the city's Engineering Department handles overtime pay after a recent dispute between heads of the department has stopped the practice for the time being, the Monroe News Star reports.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">The dispute reportedly occurred when an employee in the Human Resources Department claimed he discovered records of questionable overtime pay while checking to see if the employee in question was eligible for disability pay.

Human resource director Mike Rhymes was looking through pay records to see if traffic engineering employee Ricardo Nance could receive the disability. Rhymes claimed he discovered that Nance had been receiving overtime pay during a period when he was reportedly sick, the news source said.

"The whole issue is still under review," Mayo said. "We are hoping to wrap up everything as soon as we can so we can move forward."

According to the US Department of Labor, employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) must be given overtime pay for hours exceeding 40 in a given work week.
