R. Rex Parris Law Firm: Medieval Times Patron Blinded on Honeymoon

. By Abi Kistler

-- Medieval Times has been named in a lawsuit claiming millions of dollars in damages as a result of a man on his honeymoon becoming partially blinded in one eye while attending Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament Restaurant in Buena Park.

What started as an exciting honeymoon and new beginning for newlyweds Dustin and Melissa Wiseman ended when Dustin was struck in the eye with a flaming shard of metal. Dustin Wiseman's injury occurred on April 12, 2011, while the Wisemans were eating dinner at the Medieval Times restaurant in a VIP front-row seat. The Wisemans had been charged extra money by Medieval Times to sit closer to the arena and the show. During the show, two knights began a sword fight directly in front of the Wisemans. The titanium swords began to spark during the choreographed fight. The sparking of the swords was intended by Medieval Times to create a more exciting show.

Despite Medieval Times' knowledge of flaming shards of metal being thrown into the air, Medieval Times did not take sufficient measures to protect its patrons from being injured. As a result, while the Wisemans were eating their dinner and watching the show, a shard of metal flew off one of the titanium swords and directly into Dustin Wiseman's eye, tearing his cornea and lens and injuring his retina in multiple places. The injuries that Dustin sustained at Medieval Times have forced him to undergo multiple surgeries. Despite the surgeries, Dustin remains blind in his left eye.

Instead of spending their dream California honeymoon at the beaches, the Wisemans spent their time in a hospital. Since returning home to South Dakota from their fateful honeymoon, the Wisemans have been forced to adjust the expectations that they had for their marriage. With Dustin now legally blind in his left eye Melissa Wiseman has been forced to assume the caregiver role that she never anticipated so early in their marriage.

The case is Dustin and Melissa Wiseman v. Medieval Times Entertainment, Inc., filed in Orange County Superior Court, Case Number 00582195. The Wisemans are represented by R. Rex Parris and Jason Fowler of The R. Rex Parris Law Firm.
