Plane Crash in Iraq Kills 3 Americans

Three Americans are among seven people killed in a small plane crash in northern Iraq on Friday, February 4th. Basil al-Rahim, the chief executive officer of private equity group MerchantBridge, and two JPMorgan executives Murad Megalli and Javier Zurita, were en route from Sulaimaniya where they had been to visit the offices of AsiaCell.

AsiaCell is one of Iraq's largest mobile phone service providers and is partially owned by Qatar Telecommunications. In a statement issued by AsiaCell, Rahim was identified as a member of the AsiaCell board of directors. Abdallah Lahoud, a partner in the company, also died in the crash, MerchantBridge said in a statement. All three crew members on board were also killed. Details about the cause of the crash have not been released.
