Attorney Allan Berger filed the lawsuits on behalf of Ellen Austin and Leslie Keeper against Actavis, Actavis Elizabeth and Watson Pharmaceuticals, according to the Louisiana Record. The plaintiffs are seeking damages against the companies for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical disfigurement and court costs, among other things.

Reglan, generically known as metocrlopramide, is a medication used as short-term treatment for such maladies as heartburn, nausea and vomiting. It has been discovered that the medication can cause a number of serious side effects, such as tardive dyskinesia (TD).
According to the Mayo Clinic, TD is characterized by "repetitive, involuntary, purposeless movements such as grimacing, lip smacking, eye blinking or rapid leg and arm movements."
Additionally, the lawsuit claims that Reglan causes a number of permanent and disabling ailments, such as serious injuries to the central nervous and extrapyramidal motor systems.
