Florida School Holds Fundraiser for Three-Year-Old with Stevens Johnson Syndrome

. By
New Port Richey, FLA Florida school recently held a fundraiser for a three-year-old girl who is battling Stevens Johnson Syndrome.

It is believed that Riley Jeanne Brown contracted the serious and rare condition as a reaction to children's Motrin, according to TampaBay.com. Stevens Johnson Syndrome is a disorder caused by the body's reaction to medication or an infection that causes skin to blister and eventually shed.

The fundraising walk, held by the Genesis School, was able to raise $3,000 to help Riley's parents pay for the expenses they have incurred as a result of their daughter's illness.

"As far as what we could cover out of pocket, we were probably maxed out on day two, but all we care about is our daughter's health," Kristen Brown told the news source. "Now that the bills are coming in, we have been amazed by the support of people in the community. What Genesis School is doing for us, we couldn't be more grateful."

Riley was given the medication to help ease the pain of a broken clavicle, an injury that happened while she was playing. Once the Stevens Johnson Syndrome set in, she spent 16 days in the intensive care unit and endured multiple surgeries and a blood transfusion.
