A Missouri teenager was killed in a St. Louis car accident over Labor Day weekend.

Ean McDaniel, 14, was trying to cross Interstate 55 with two of his friends when he was hit by a car, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The two friends had made it across the southbound part of the highway to the median when McDaniel was struck by the vehicle.

McDaniel was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, reports the news source.

According to authorities, the driver of the vehicle that hit McDaniel is cooperating with police and has not been charged, reports KMOX.com.

A section of Interstate 55 was shut down for a number of hours to allow investigators to reconstruct the accident to better determine what happened.

McDaniel was a freshman in high school, part of the ROTC program and was on the soccer and track teams, reports Fox 2.

"He always looked to do the right thing," Felicia Campbell, McDaniel's aunt, told the news source.
