Washington, DCThe Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans, commonly known as the ERISA Advisory Council, will meet in the nation's capital from August 31 to September 2 to hear testimony from witnesses regarding ERISA pension and to discuss other important matters.

Over the course of the three days, the Advisory Council will discuss a range of topics, including auditing of employee benefit plans, healthcare literacy and the disparities that women and minorities face in terms of retirement. In addition, financial model reporting is on the agenda.
The ERISA Advisory Council consists of 15 members, each of whom is appointed by the secretary of labor to staggered three-year terms. The people on the committee represent a vast array of backgrounds and fields, including the general public, employers, employee organizations, corporate trusts, investment managing, investment counseling and actuarial counseling.
The meetings will be held at the US Department of Labor and will be open to the public.
The Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) was passed in 1974 to establish minimum standards for the private sector in terms of pension plans.
