Washington, DCHouse representatives are calling for an investigation into a potential case of veteran medical malpractice at a VA medical center in St. Louis, Missouri.
Fox News reports that 1,800 veterans from Illinois, Missouri and a number of other states may have been exposed to HIV and other diseases while receiving dental treatment at the facility.
Congressman Russ Carnahan, who represents St. Louis in the House, has asked the White House, the Veterans Administration and the House Committee on Veterans Affairs to look into the matter, which allegedly took place between February 2009 and March 2010.
"This is absolutely unacceptable," Carnahan told the news source. "No veteran who has served and risked their life for this great nation should have to worry about their personal safety when receiving much needed health care services from a Veterans Administration hospital."
Carnahan, a Democrat, was joined by representatives from the other side of the aisle.
"As a nation we vow to protect those who protect us," said Sam Johnson, a Republican from Texas. He is calling for a "full congressional investigation to get to the bottom of this."
