Los Angeles, CAThe wildfire that began near a power station in the Angeles National Forest (referred to as the “Powerhouse Fire”) has destroyed 30 homes near Palmdale in northern Los Angeles County and damaged three others. There were no deaths and eight minor injuries reported, as well as minor injuries suffered by five firefighters.
The fire, which began May 30, burned 30,274 acres. As of June 6 the powerhouse fire has cost $16 million: to completely contain the blaze nearly 2,000 personnel, including 57 fire crews were employed to bring in 141 engines, 24 bulldozers, 34 water tenders, 11 helicopters and four air tankers. By June 11, firefighters had fully contained the fire.
Currently, the recovery process continues. SCVnews.com reported (Jun 20) that disaster recovery specialists from the California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) and the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) toured areas affected by the powerhouse fire to verify damages to homes and businesses.
To date there is no word on how the powerhouse fire erupted, but an investigation is underway.
