Anxiety Attack Victims want to File a Yasmin/Yaz Class Action Lawsuit

London, ONSilvia experienced anxiety attacks while on both Yasmin and Yaz. She read online about the Yasmin/Yaz class action lawsuit, and now she wants to know if she qualifies.

"My doctor suggested I take a birth control pill to help with my irregular periods," says Silvia. "At first I took Yasmin, then I switched to Yaz for the past 18 months, until I experienced a panic attack for the first time in my life."

Silvia says she is very healthy and has never suffered any kind of mental disorder. She doesn't smoke or drink and has a very healthy diet. But shortly after taking Yasmin, she started having mood swings and anger issues. She was also constantly fatigued and had leg pains.

"I wasn't comfortable taking Yasmin or Yaz because my friend told me both pills have a lot of side effects," Sylvia says. "Last June I had a panic attack for the first time. My heart was beating very fast and I was scared: My doctor sent me for cardiac tests, including an ultrasound, and the results showed nothing irregular. But these side effects didn't go away… I was also prescribed meds for anxiety but I didn't take them.

"When my prescription for Yasmin was done, my doctor gave me another prescription for Yaz, but I didn't take that either, because I went online and read a long list of side effects. Then I found LawyersandSettlements and learned about the Yasmin/Yaz class action lawsuit.

"I think everyone should be aware of what this drug can cause. Believe me, when you have an anxiety attack, it is real. I'm not suggesting that it is nearly as bad as other side effects such as deep vein thrombosis or worse, but I want to take this opportunity to warn other women: If you experience an anxiety attack and don't know why, it could be caused by your birth control pill."

Silvia certainly isn't alone: A number of women have voiced their concerns about Yasmin/Yaz and a range of disorders on online healthboards, and many of them want to join a class action lawsuit. One woman wrote that she took her 18-year-old daughter to college campus counselors, psychologists, a psychiatrist, and the campus medical doctor. Her daughter had been prescribed Yasmin because of irregular periods and, like Silvia, her entire personality changed.

"We were told [Yasmin] is the new 'miracle pill,'" wrote the woman. "It will make you lose weight, regulate your periods, clear up acne, you name it, it will fix it. Yeah, right. [My daughter] started taking this pill then she was experiencing horrible headaches, behind the eyes. She complained about her stomach hurting, but we just figured it was the stress of freshman year at college. When she came home in May for the summer, I noticed a total personality change. For example, she was always a neat freak, and now she wouldn't clean her room. The first day when she drove home, she started crying, she was so mad about the traffic. Yes, she has always had a little road rage, but this was ridiculous…now she is having full blown panic attacks."

And from another mother whose daughter was taking Yasmin:

"Thank goodness she has counselors and doctors at the campus who believe that Yasmin can cause all of these problems, and are working with her. From what I have read from the people that have used this medicine, although most doctors do not agree, Yasmin takes six months to get out of your system. I think I am going to believe the testimonials of the people who take this medicine over a doctor who prescribes it. If everyone goes to the media, their doctors, the FDA, congressmen, and make them aware of these horrible effects, surely we can get this drug off of the market! Does anyone know a class action lawyer that would pursue this?"
