Sta-Rite Industries.

A $104 million verdict has been found in the lawsuit filed against Sta-Rite Industries Inc. on behalf of the family of Lorenzo Peterson. On June 17, 2000 a Sta-Rite single-horsepower pump trapped Peterson underwater for several minutes, causing irreversible brain damage. The suit claimed that the pump was unsafe, yet the company made no efforts to modify the design so that it would be less dangerous for swimmers. (Aug-11-03) [BUSINESS JOURNAL]
