Microsoft Patent Infringement
A $521 million verdict has been found in the patent infringement lawsuit filed on behalf of Michael Doyle, a cellular biologist. Doyle created a way for Web browsers to automatically summon programs over the Internet in 1993, and the technology was used by programs such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Doyle claimed that Microsoft violated his patent, which he received in 1998. (Sep-30-03)
