AK Steel Co. AK Steel Co. has reached a $1.2 million settlement with the Environmental Protection Agency. AK Steel will pay a $300,000 penalty and has agreed to $900,000 worth of projects to reduce smog-producing ozone in Pennsylvania. The company also agreed to spend $66 million to design and install pollution control equipment at a plant north of Cincinnati.
