Town of New Milford and Officer Scott Smith

A settlement was reached in the death of a black suspect killed by white officer. The city of New Milford has settled with the parents and three children of Franklin Reid for $1.6 million. Reid was shot by Officer Scott Smith after a foot chase along route 202. Smith became the first Connecticut officer in the line of duty to be to be charged with murder. Smith agreed never to pursue a job as an officer in a plea to stay out of jail. (Jan-18-05) [ WFSB 3 NEWS ]
