A small company called Burst claimed it was in negotiations with the computer giant who dropped them and then turned around and used similar software in Windows Media Player 9. Burst alleged these action infringed upton their patent rights and harmed competitiveness. Microsoft has agreed to pay Burst $60 million for non-exclusive liscensing of the software in question.
