The utility company has been ordered to pay the United States Environmental Protection Agency $1.1 billion in fines and for the installation of anti-pollution devices. FirstEnergy Corp. allegedly violated the Clean Air Act by polluting the air through emissions from one of the nation's dirtiest coal-fired facilities, the W.H. Sammis Plant on the Ohio River.
