OfficeMax, Inc.

A lawsuit was filed against the supply company for allegedly submitting false claims by selling office supply products to U.S. government agencies that were manufactured in countries not permitted by the Trade Agreements Act. OfficeMax holds a contract with the General Services Administration to prevent the sale of products from countries that do not have reciprocal trade agreements from being offered for sale to U.S. government agencies. Edward Wilder and Robert Hsi Chou Lee of Safina Office Products filed the whistleblower case in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in January 2003. Safina, Wilder and Roberts will collectively receive $1.47 million of the total $9.8 million recovery. (May-19-05) [LA TIMES]
