In December 2002, Jeffrey Alfieri filed a lawsuit against the church claiming that the Reverand Gerald Moffat sexually abused him at the age of 11 back in 1972 and 1973. Three months later, on February 20, 2003, 43 year old Alfieri shot himself outside Holy Family Church in Kirkland. Alfieri's parents, Ralph and Sue were awarded a $600,000 settlement.
