Multiple lawsuits were filed against the church involving allegations of sexual abuse by Roman Catholic priests. Most of the cases involved allegations against one San Jose priest, Reverend Joseph Pritchard, who died in 1988. All the claims were brought as the result of a 2001 state law that extended the statute of limitations for lawsuits to hold the church responsible for molestations that occurred in the past. The Archdiocese of San Francisco has agreed to pay the plaintiffs a $21.2 million settlement. (Jun-10-05) [LOS ANGELES TIMES]
