Warner Bros.

Producer Robert Clark filed a lawsuit against the production company for allegedly infringing upon the copyright to his obscure 1975 United Artists film Moonrunners. The television edition of The Dukes of Hazzard was based upon Clark's film. The TV rights were sold to Warner Bros., but they allegedly failed to obtain the movie rights before producing The Dukes of Hazzard with Jessica Simpson due out August 5, 2005. Warner Bros. has agreed to pay Clark a $17.5 million settlement; that is more than the studio spent on the combined salaries of Simpson, Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott, and Burt Reynolds.
