Fort Lauderdale City

On January 9, 2004, Ruth Goebel accidentally drove her Chevy Suburban off the fifth floor of the City Park Mall parking garage. Goebel was killed when her SUV flipped and landed on the sidewalk below. Goebel's family filed a lawsuit against the city alleging the garage had structural problems and was awarded a $175,000 wrongful death settlement. The barrier walls have since been replaced and reinforced. (Aug-05-05)
