Lucite International, Inc.
The Justice Department and the Environmental Protection Agency filed charges against the chemical manufacturer for violations of the Clean Air Act. The case claimed Lucite violated CAA provisions of the New Source Performance Standards, the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants, and the Protection of Stratospheric Ozone. Lucite has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $1.8 million and perform a supplemental environmental project worth $1.3 million. They have also agreed to install $16 million worth of new pollution controls which will eliminate 6,500 tons of pollution each year. (Oct-17-05)
