Port of Tacoma

Timber giant, Weyerhaeuser Co. was evicted from its wood chip factory on the Blair Waterway. Weyerhaeuser's 25 acre facility has been on the Blair since 1973 and they had a lease set to run through 2017. In May 2004, the port commission voted to void the lease through eminent domain as they claimed to need the property to widen the waterway to safely accommodate larger ships. The Port of Tacoma has agreed to pay Weyerhaeuser a $12.5 million settlement, but the company must vacate the facility by May 31, 2006. (Nov-10-05) [NEWS TRIBUNE]
