Jamaican Government

In October 2003, David Bacchas, Cecil Brown and Audrey Stephens were traveling in a motor car when several Flankers police officers opened fire. Bacches and Brown were killed in the incident while Stephens survived with injuries. The police claim the motor vehicle was inadvertently caught in the crossfire with a gunman, but several eyewitnesses claim there was no gunman. The five policemen involved have been charged with double murder and wounding with intent. Negotiations are still taking place with respect to the death of Brown and the personal injury of Stephens. Government officials have agreed to pay a $4.75 million settlement to the Bacchas estate. (Jan-11-06) [JAMAICA GLEANER]
