After school on February 11, 2005, Brooke Ingoldsby was dropped of on the wrong side of a busy street. The James B. Sanderlin Elementary third grader was hit and killed by a vehicle as she tried to cross five lanes of rush-hour traffic. Brooke's mom, Michelle Allen, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the district. Michelle was awarded a $1.2 million settlement for the wrongful death of her eight-year-old daughter.
