Albertsons and S & J Security
In June 2004, four teenagers, two girls and two boys, were held by security guards for hours in an Albertsons supermarket office after allegedly trying to walk out of the store with a bottle of vodka. The two male guards, Omar Maurice Ray and Jermar Jackson, forced the teens to drink the bottle of vodka. One of the girls was intoxicated and was taken into a separate room. The guards removed her clothing and when her friend opened the door, one of the guards punched him. At some point, two of the teens were released. The girl was later found unconscious on a street corner. The second girl's parents came to the store looking for her about three hours after the teens entered the store; at that point, the second two teens were released. Under the settlement, two of the teens, a boy and a girl, will each receive $60,000. The second boy who was punched in the stomach was awarded $75,000 and the second girl, whose clothing was removed by one of the guards, will be paid $115,000. Ray was sentenced to four years in prison and Jackson got three years probation and 120 days' work along state highways. (Jan-29-06
