LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
PG&E, Davey Tree Surgery Co. and Western Environmental Consultants Inc.
On the morning of September 6, 2001 a 100-foot pine tree fell onto three backup power lines which ran into PG&E's Poe Powerhouse. The tree sparked several fires which swept through the Yankee Hill area and burned over 8,000 acres of land. It took 2,100 firefighters six days to contain and put out the fire. It destroyed three commercial structures, 47 homes, 120 outbuildings and 155 vehicles. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, 122 individuals and 11 insurance companies filed a lawsuit against PG&E, Davey Tree Surgery Co. and Western Environmental Consultants Inc. claiming negligence in the fire. Although the three companies did not admit to any wrongdoing, they settled the case out of court for $5.9 million. (Feb-22-06)
