Jimmy Pflueger

A lawsuit was filed against the retired auto dealer for allegedly violating federal clean water laws. In 2001, Pflueger graded 300 acres of his Kauai property without proper permits. A rainstorm led to a massive mudslide that left a neighbor's home in shambles and killed coral reefs. Pflueger has agreed to a $7.5 million settlement; the largest storm water settlement for violations by one landowner at a single site in U.S. history. Money from the settlement will be used to restore damaged streams, prevent more erosion and replace cesspools with improved wastewater systems. (Mar-09-06) [HAWAII CHANNEL]
