Providence St. Joseph Medical Center

In September, 2003 actor John Ritter fell ill on the set of his new TV show. Ritter was hospitalized at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, where he underwent surgery for a tear in his aorta. He died of the rare medical condition shortly before 10 p.m. that evening. His family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital alleging medical malpractice, misdiagnosis and unnecessary procedures. The details of the settlement are undisclosed, but Ritter's widow, actress Amy Yasbeck, has claimed damages in excess of $25 million. (Mar-16-06) [WSOC TV]
