LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Evanston Northwestern Healthcare
This is a settlement for the Medical Malpractice lawsuit.
On July 4, 1999 Ms. Skokie was 38 weeks pregnant when she went to the hospital emergency room with complaints of unexplained bleeding and abdominal pain. The mother was released the next day as readings on the electronic fetal monitor were within normal limits. On July 13, she returned to Evanston Hospital with complaints of bleeding. After natural labor failed, doctors induced labor and delivered the baby using forceps. Unfortunately, the baby boy suffered severe blood loss and lack of oxygen to the brain. The Skokie family filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and was awarded a $5 million settlement. Their son is now six and suffers from Cerebral Palsy.
