Mishawaka School District

A 12-year-old girl told authorities that Mark Gardner, a teacher at Liberty Elementary, molested her while she was at his house and during a school field trip in 2004. The little girl's family filed a civil lawsuit against the city's school district alleging that the former teacher had inappropriately touched their daughter. Without admitting liability, the Mishawaka School District agreed to settle the lawsuit for $131,675 to be paid over the next 12 years.

In the criminal case, a St. Joseph Superior Court jury acquitted Gardner of two counts of child molesting. (Apr-18-06) [THE NEWS SENTINEL]
