Minnkota Power Cooperative
The federal Environmental Protection Agency filed charges against the plant for allegedly violating federal clean air laws. The Milton Young electric power plant did not have equipment to control sulfur dioxide or nitrogen oxides which can cause asthma and respiratory problems. Minnkota Power Cooperative has agreed to install $135 million worth of anti-pollution equipment that will reduce sulfur dioxide pollution by about 23,600 tons annually, and nitrogen oxide pollution by about 9,400 tons.
