A multimillion-dollar wrongful death settlement was reached in the case of Bonnie Pappas, a 45-year-old woman killed in January when her car was hit by a police cruiser responding to a 911 call.
Baltimore County Police department's criminal investigation unit found that at the time the accident occurred, the police officer who hit Pappas was driving at least 85 mph and did not have his vehicle's emergency lights or siren activated. The lawsuit contended that had the officer had his siren and lights on, Pappas would have seen him coming and would not have fallen victim to the officer's negligent driving.
While the terms of the settlement are confidential, the civil lawsuit, in Baltimore County Circuit Court, sought $1 million in damages for Pappas' estate and $25 million for each of her two children. (Apr-19-06) [ BALTIMORE SUN ]
