Puget Sound Energy

In September 2004, a leaky pipe spread gas that ignited and destroyed the Schmitz home. Frances Schmitz was critically burned and died three weeks later. Schmitz's family filed a lawsuit against Puget Sound Energy claiming the company was negligent in leaving the gas leak unchecked. Puget Sound Energy has agreed to award the family an $8 million settlement to compensate for personal injury and property damage. (May-18-06) [SEATTLE TIMES]
