State Farm Fire & Casualty Co.

On May 3 1999, a severe storm in Oklahoma caused several tornadoes that damaged homes and property. Donald Watkins Jr. and Bridget Watkins house was destroyed. As policyholders, they tried to claim structural damages after the storm had settled. They filed a lawsuit against the insurance provider after their claims were adjusted or denied by State Farm Fire & Casualty Co. while using the opinion of Haag Engineering Co. The Watkins alleged State Farm had engaged in a wrongful scheme to delay, deny or underpay claims by repeatedly and unilaterally engaging the services of Haag Engineering Co. to inspect brick and other structural damage to policyholders' homes. A Grady County jury has awarded the Watkins' $9.9 million in punitive damages on top of $3 million in actual damages. (May-27-06) [TULSA WORLD NEWS]
