Hillenbrand Industries, Inc.
This is a settlement for the Antitrust lawsuit.
In 2003, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System filed an antitrust class action lawsuit against Hillenbrand Industries, Inc. alleging that it used its monopoly power in the hospital bed market to coerce hospitals into renting specialty made beds. Spartanburg claimed that, since 1990, the huge health care and funeral services company hurt competition and raised prices. A settlement agreement has been reached between Hillenbrand, based in Indiana, and Spartanburg, the South Carolina hospital group. The original cost of the settlement, $337.5 million, was reduced to approximately $316.3 million. (Jun-14-06)
