LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
City of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Golden Corral restaurant chain
This is a settlement for the Civil / Human Rights lawsuit.
Several men met for dinner at Golden Corral restaurant in July, 2003 to discuss a university homecoming. At the time, someone called the restaurant and demanded money, saying his accomplices were in the restaurant. When the men left, police stopped the men (seven of whom were black) and ordered them to kneel to the ground for some time. A civil rights and slander lawsuit against the Fayetteville police department and the restaurant has awarded the men $100,000 and an apology from the city has been issued. (Jun-21-06)
