The U.S. Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service

The U.S. Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service have been charging three percent phone tax to consumers on long-distance phone calls to pay for the Spanish-American War that was fought more than 100 years ago. The government has decided to stop collecting the 1898 phone tax and individuals will be able to claim three years' worth of refunds on their 2006 tax returns. (Jun-28-06) [HEARTLAND INSTITUTE]
