LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
Mark and Treva Gordon
In June, 2005 Braxton Wooden was under the care of foster parents Mark and Treva Gordon when he was shot dead by the Gordons' son Ethan while playing a game of cops and robbers in their home. The Jasper County foster parents were not home at the time and fourteen-year-old Ethan didn't think the gun was loaded. Ethan was charged with involuntary manslaughter in juvenile court and he was committed to the custody of the Division of Youth Services until he is 17. Mclean filed a wrongful death lawsuit alleging the Gordons' home was kept in a manner that violated foster-care regulations and having guns and ammunition on the premises. A partial settlement of $100,000 has been approved between Brandie McLean and her family and between Farm Bureau Town & Country Insurance Co. The agreement removes the Gordons' as defendants in McLean's wrongful-death lawsuit. A lawsuit against the state continues. (Jul-07-06)
