Accused Rapist
Chicago - A Chicago area college student was allegedly sexually assaulted and raped by a classmate in their dormitory. The woman was assaulted on campus, but the suspect was only charged with misdemeanor battery. She filed a lawsuit under the Illinois Gender Violence Act. Cook County Circuit Court Associate Judge Mary Rochford awarded the plaintiff more than $600,000 for costs including past and future treatment expenses, and lost wages and earnings and an award of $1.8 million for emotional distress and punitive damages.
