Dunham's Sports
Hollidaysburg - In January 2005 Thomas Drass asked his grandparents for a gun, but they refused to purchase one for him. Drass then went to Dunham's Sports and purchased a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition. Drass went back to his grandparents' home and shot and killed his grandfather, Dwayne Chamberlain. Drass' grandmother and wife of Dwayne Chamberlain, Kathryn, filed a negligence lawsuit against the sporting goods retail store for allegedly violating several firearms laws and Dunham's Sports' own operating policies and procedures. Kathryn Chamberlain has agreed to a $300,000 settlement with Dunham's Sports. Drass was functionally illiterate and under the influence of methamphetamines while the shooting occurred, his first-degree murder criminal charges are still pending. (Sep-21-06)
