Premium Standard Farms Inc.

Jackson County - Three families filed a lawsuit against the northwestern Missouri hog farm claiming the animal waste stench created a nuisance. Plaintiffs in the case were John and Carlotta Arnold, Leslie and Denise Turner, and David Gwinn and the estate of his father, Roy Gwinn. Premium Standard Farms accepted the Jackson County jury verdict and awarded the three families $4.5 million in actual damages; the plaintiffs dropped a punitive damage case.

Premium Standard has about 2,200 employees in Missouri state and is the second largest pork producer in the United States. It is currently owned by ContiGroup Cos.
