James Joseph Sander Jr.

Moorhead, MN: On September 23, 2005 19-year-old Patrick Kycia was attending a party at the Phi Sigma Kappa frat house. Four days later the Minnesota State University student was found dead along the Red River. An autopsy revealed Kycia drowned and had a blood alcohol level of 0.17%, more than twice the legal limit for driving. Kycia's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against James Joseph Sander Jr. for providing alcohol to minors. Sander denied liability for Kycia's death, but the company that insured the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity's national chapter and its members will pay a $1 million settlement.
